...Deer Isle
charming Stonington

Maine has what it calls its "quiet side" in that few tourists make it over to the area of the island outside of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

Even more quiet and less touristy is the island of Deer Isle and its two main communities, Deer Isle and Stonington. I spent time in Stonington and enjoyed its less-than-bustling but charming Main Street.

Sand Beach is a small cove beach located at Burnt Cove, in the southwest corner of Deer Isle, quiet with only a couple of locals when I visited.

Aragosta Restaurant at Goose Cove
greenhouse dining room
Aragosta had a brilliant idea making this greenhouse effect a dining area. It was exquisite. Maybe it was never an actual greenhouse, but I can only imagine how totally thrilling it might be to have an evning dinner in there.
